We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Call for Papers for the inaugural New Directions in Language Assessment Sub-Saharan Africa conference is now open. We invite proposals that address the main conference theme and focus in particular on our three conference strands.

Theme: Rethinking policy and practice for English in complex linguistic landscapes

Conference dates

The conference will convene in person on 24-26 September in Nairobi, Kenya. Parallel sessions will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

Conference format

New Directions Sub-Saharan Africa 2024 will take place as a face-to-face conference in Nairobi, Kenya, and will feature different themes with plenary talks or discussions on each of the topics. Sessions may be recorded and shared online a few weeks after the event. 

Presenters who wish to be part of the conference will be required to present in person in Nairobi, Kenya, in parallel break-out sessions organised at the venue.

Presentations slots are 20 mins long with an additional 10 mins available for questions and answers.

Travel advice and accommodation recommendations will be made available but no funding for accepted speakers is available at this time.
