Context and Environment:
The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international non-profit organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. British Council’s vision for SSA is to build trust and understanding with Africa’s next generation by expanding and increasing opportunities to connect with the UK through our work in Education & Society, Arts and English. BC Kenya has an expanding HE portfolio including scholarships.
The British Council manages the Tullow Oil Group Scholarship Scheme in 9 countries globally. The aim of the scholarship is to support capacity building and development of professionals for the oil and gas sector and other related (service) sectors in Africa and South America. The contract which involves the recruitment, selection and placement of candidates in the UK and Europe on a tailored scholarship scheme, is being delivered across a number of countries, including Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritania, Suriname, Guyana, Uruguay and Ivory Coast. From 2015, the scheme will also offer in-country awards to provide skills for employability to Kenyans from Tullow Oil’s target regions.
Given the scale and scope of the project, the Project Delivery Manager will be expected work in a very pragmatic, effective and professional way to manage the various implementation activities, coordinate activities as they happen across Kenya and provide assurance of quality and proper procedure in all the deliverables and services. He/She will have an eye for detail, manage crisis and report as necessary to senior management. Strong financial management and monitoring of expenditure will be essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
All will be in line with our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Child Protection and other overarching corporate policies:
Project management and delivery: To implement a portfolio of services and plans under the contract and meet all project targets.
Risk management: To identify, assess, report and monitor progress in addressing risks to the achievement of project objectives.
Budget and financial management: To manage project budgets to corporate standards, ensuring prompt reporting and continuous monitoring of in country, UK and regional expenditure.
Procurement: To ensure all procurement and contract for service are in line with corporate and client policy and that documentation is robust and stored appropriately for future reference.
Marketing and Communications: To ensure that project is marketed internally and externally to the highest standards in print (press, publications), digitally (websites, social media, TV, radio) and at events (conferences, workshops, meetings). Working collaboratively with Head of Communications and Digital to showcase the impact of the project.
Monitoring and Evaluation: To ensure that all project inputs have a monitoring process embedded, that evaluations are conducted and lessons learned fed into ongoing project design and delivery.
Other administrative work: As required and delegated by Kenya Senior Management Team (SMT) and Tullow Oil’s regional team.
