To book your test you will need to:

  1. Include your correct email address to enable you to receive key information about your test.
  2. Please note that candidates will not be allowed to take the test without the original ID document. The ID document should be a Passport/ National ID. Student ID, Voter ID, and driver’s license will not be accepted. The ID document is strictly a valid Passport for non-Kenyans. Any other identity document will not be accepted. Please note that candidates under 18 years of age have to supply written consent by a parent or guardian in order to apply for a test place.
  3. Pay for your test. You can pay for your test either through our online registration system where you will be offered the option of card or mobile money payment or via cash deposit at any branch of Standard Chartered in Kenya using the British Council Virtual Account deposit slip. Please read more here before proceeding with payment via mobile money. If you pay offline, please make sure you indicate your IELTS reference number on the cash deposit slip.

At a test centre:

  • IELTS on computer
  • IELTS on computer with Writing on Paper (not available for UKVI tests)

Remotely:

  • IELTS Online

If you are taking IELTS in a British Council official centre, you can choose your Speaking test slot when you take IELTS on computer.

Your Listening, Reading and Writing sections of the test will be completed on the same day with no break in between.

After you have booked your test, we will confirm the following information by email:

  • the start time of your test 
  • where you will take your test
  • your Speaking test date and time
  • your access to IELTS Ready Premium. 

Your payment will be confirmed within two working days should you choose to make a bank payment, so you can contact us after that period if you have not received a confirmation of payment. Online payments will be confirmed instantly after payment has been made.
