In basic education, The British Council also supports the Ministry of Education’s vision of strengthening English language across Ethiopia through the strengthening of teachers’ English proficiency for pre-service and in-service teachers.

We offer many exams, from English proficiency tests to school and professional qualifications, in Ethiopia. We connect people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the academic and business world.

The British Council Ethiopia Arts programme contributes to the socio-economic development of Ethiopia, particularly focussed on women, by strengthening the Creative economies and harnessing the rich heritage the country possesses. Our interventions focus on enhancing the capacity and network of creative professionals to support them build sustainable careers.

The British Council in Ethiopia equips young people in Ethiopia with the skills, confidence, and networks needed to transform their lives. The British Council also supports Ethiopia’s civil society to become active advocates that contribute to inclusive, transparent, and accountable governance, equitable and inclusive access to services, and a better environment for the promotion and protection of the human rights of all Ethiopians.
