The Instructional Leadership Training equipped Mr. Taungana to cultivate educational settings that promote gender equity, ensuring equal access and prospects for all students.
Mr. Taungana Blessings Ndoro serves as the Director of Communication at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe. His role involves communicating policy directives, advocating for educational initiatives, and acting as the ministry's spokesperson. Since participating in the British Council's Instructional Leadership Training in 2021, Taungana has become a fervent advocate of its principles and practices. The programme targets school heads and leaders, instilling transformative leadership skills to help them excel in their roles.
"The Instructional Leadership Training taught me the importance of inclusive leadership," reflects Taungana. "A leader is only as effective as their team; no vision can be realised without collective effort. I've not only embraced this philosophy within my team but also championed it among school leaders." The training's impact has been remarkable, with deputy heads advancing to head positions and current school heads driving positive change within their institutions.
Evidence of the training's success is reflected in the improved performance of schools whose leaders participated. Taungana cites instances where schools achieved a 100% pass rate, a significant improvement from previous averages as low as 70%, attributing this progress directly to the programme's influence.
Beyond the Instructional Leadership Training, Taungana has also engaged in the Leading Learning for Gender Equality Programme (LL4GE), facilitated by the British Council. This initiative, an extension of the instructional leadership framework, aims to cultivate gender-sensitive school leaders. By addressing stereotypes and promoting gender equality, the training empowers leaders to foster inclusive learning environments where all genders are afforded equal opportunities.
As a result of his participation, Taungana has emerged as a staunch advocate for gender equality within the ministry. Leveraging his role, he champions the development of policies aimed at promoting gender equity and dismantling discriminatory practices. He recognises the pivotal role played by the British Council's programmes in driving positive change within the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe.
"The impact of the British Council's programmes on our ministry cannot be overstated," acknowledges Taungana. "These initiatives are integral to our government's vision, and I commend the approach taken by the programmes in addressing critical issues in education."
