Dr. Ahmed Minni, Director of Peace and Sustainable Development at Red Sea University in Sudan, has made significant strides in academia and peacebuilding. Under his leadership, the university has collaborated extensively with the British Council, notably through the Enabling University Peace Education programme. This initiative promoted peace building and dialogue within the academic community, contributing to sustainable development and social cohesion.
The Enabling University Peace Education programme was crucial for Sudan, a country currently embroiled in conflict. Dr Ahmed explains, ‘Through the Enabling University Peace Education programme, students are trained on the concept of peace. We have trained three universities in the Eastern Cluster Universities of Sudan despite the challenges of the ongoing war. This programme is essential in ensuring participants understand and embrace the concept of peace."
Despite the myriad challenges, Dr. Ahmed Minni has remained steadfast in Sudan, executing his role with the hope that his efforts will contribute to the much-needed peace. His illustrious career, spanning three decades, has been entirely within Sudan, and he remains hopeful of a brighter future.
Dr. Ahmed Minni's journey began as an Arabic teacher. His career took a significant turn when he encountered the British Council through the Connecting Classrooms Programme. Inspired by the principles and practices he absorbed, Dr. Minni decided to deepen his understanding of the English language. With unwavering determination, he enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree programme in English Language, driven by his passion for fostering effective communication and learning.
His engagements with various British Council initiatives further fuelled his enthusiasm for language learning and teaching. Leading programmes such as the Sudan English Programme (SEP) and English Connects Programme (SE), he immersed himself in the language, eventually pursuing advanced studies culminating in a Master's Degree and later a PhD in English.
Grateful for the invaluable support from the British Council, Dr. Minni remains committed to leveraging his expertise and experiences to effect positive change. His work continues to inspire future generations in Sudan and beyond, promoting a vision of a peaceful, educated, and equitable world.
